A rough run and a wet suit

Today I had the fortune of having my interview for my internship smack in the middle of class so, sadly, I had to miss my 4.5 hour lecture on Irish history.  Oh well.....

My office is in this super modern building and the interior courtyard faces most of the offices walled with glass.  I will get pictures tomorrow or sometime this week when I go walking around.  The woman who interviewed me is actually from South Africa, and none of my co-workers are actually Irish.  I should explain....

Bently Systems develops software for engineering and design companies specifically geared towards infrastructure.  They are actually working with a company developing an above ground rail for the upcoming Olympics in London.  Anywhoo....they are based in the US and A aka the greatest country on the planet!  Alas, I digress with my patriotism....

Bently has many offices throughout the U.S. and is also in the EU, Africa, and India among some of its locations.  I will be working in the collections division.  The cool thing about this is that everyone in the collections division is from somewhere OTHER than Ireland.  This is good and bad.  I wanted a full Irish immersion, but on the other hand this is an immersion I could only dream of.  Some of the people I will be working with know six, count them, SIX languages!!!!  Guess I need to work on my espanol...

I start next Monday and we will see where it goes from there.  Today was also some of the most sporadic weather I have seen since I've been here.  It was overcast and cold this morning.  Then it got very windy followed by rain ten minutes before I was going to walk to my interview.  I ran to the corner store and bought an umbrella and got to my interview.  Of course it stopped raining when I was in my interview and as soon as I started walking home it started pouring.  My suit got drenched and that was some good fun.  After that I went on a run through the streets of Dublin and encountered someone smoking every fifth person.  P.S. this was FANTASTIC for my cough!  I plan on heading the other direction tomorrow towards the elevation, and you should expect pictures from this.

Slancha!

  1. Is "slancha" Irish for "good-bye"? Show off! Just teasing. Not surprised by the smoking. Congrats! on the internship. Well done! Love, Mom

  2. "slan" is goodbye. "slancha" is something like good living or something along those lines. It's what we say when we toast.
