Movies and a long chat with an Indian gentleman got me through flight number one easily. Facing a 4 hour layover, I scarfed my second meal which had been neglected for the past three hours of flight, then popped some Niquil and proceeded to wait out my layover in a half sleeping state. I was trying to hold off on sleeping until my flight so I could sleep all the way through, but I ended up sleeping very sporadically on the flight since sleeping in an upright position for six hours is no Hilton suite.
At last we landed in cloudy, wet Dublin, accents and all. I met with my program director along with two other people in my program and we were on our way to our house. I am living in a 4 bedroom townhouse in the southern part of Dublin with 4 other guys and 2 girls. My program director showed us around town today and I noticed some things:
1. Irish folk drive on the wrong side of the car on the wrong side of the road. You have to "look left" before crossing the street. This is going to take some getting used to.
2. The Guiness they serve you in the U.S. is like water compared to the Guiness here. I know this because the first thing I did after putting my things away was walk to the nearest pub down the street and order a pint straight from the "quality controlled" tap. Yes, Guiness sends quality control managers around to all of the pubs to make sure their beer is being kept/served at the right temperature, and that they are served in Guiness glasses. GUINESS IS EVERYWHERE!
3. The canals in Dublin were built specifically for the transport of Guiness from the factory to the port.
4. Every door is a different color and every doorknob is unique (my favorite so far is a pineapple shaped knocker).
Pictures and more stories to come soon. I didn't want to seem too "touristy" today, so I refrained from photographs. I promise I will have some soon. Love you guys and miss you all!
Cheers!
